In the section below, you can find the answers to questions that are regularly asked about our camp

What are Team Days?

Team Days are opportunities for players to build and strengthen friendships with other players off the football field. These events will usually take place on Saturdays during camp and include activities such as fishing trips, hanging out at Sky Zone, watching a movie at the park, and many other events that will open the door for players to meet someone new while having fun.

How is my son's placement in his league determined?

There are two separate leagues in SJFC. The older players who weigh more are placed in the Varsity League. The younger players who weigh less are placed in the Junior Varsity League. This separation of age and weight allows for players to learn this highly physical sport while reducing the chance of injury.

Is the SJFC affiliated with the City or County governments?

The South Jackson Football Camp is in no way affiliated with any local governments or the Parks and Rec Department. However, many of the camp coaches have served as volunteer coaches for the Madison County youth football league.

What is Draft Day?

Prior to Stage II of camp and immediately after Stage I, the head coaches will be assigned their teams. Each coach will have the opportunity to get the first pick of players to be on their team. Varsity coaches will select 7 players, Junior Varsity coaches will select 5 players. The remaining players will be assigned to their teams by the director.

Will my son receive an award at the end of camp?

Every player has the opportunity to earn a trophy or medal at the end of camp, but no player will be given an award for simply participating in the camp. There are many different awards that can be earned such as Team Leader, Leader in Touchdowns, Most Progressed Player, etc. Every player has the opportunity to earn the Attendance Award by never failing to attend scheduled practices, scrimmages, and games.

What does the registration fee go towards?

The $40 fee required for registration will pay for your son's camp T-shirt. The remainder of the money paid will go towards buying new equipment for the camp, maintaining the field, and other costs necessary for camp events.

How much are camp staff members and coaches paid?

The SJFC is entirely volunteer operated. No member of the camp will receive any payment for the services they give to the camp. Because the camp is completely dependent on volunteers from the community, it is paramount to the success of the camp that individuals are willing to offer their time to support our efforts. If you ever feel compelled to assist with the camp's operation in any way, please communicate that desire with the camp director.

What is the camp's schedule?

The camp schedule is separated into 3 stages. In Stage I, players will learn the basics of the sport and how to play each position. In Stage II, players will be separated into their teams and be assigned a position. In Stage III, teams will prepare for the two games held at the end of camp. Each week, two practices will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. These practices will generally be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but may have to be moved depending on weather. Games are scheduled to be held on the last two Saturdays of May.

How do the SJFC teams work?

The two SJFC leagues will be split into two teams each. After Stage I of camp, players will spend the remainder of their time at camp practicing with their assigned team and coaches. At the end of camp, the teams will play two games against each other in their respective leagues.
